Hello,

I`m using a dual screen setup to show tasks that are used in outlook. Both screens show a static image of these tasks.

When I shut down the screens, the auto resize function from windows kicks in and changes the layout. So, when I turn the screens back on the next day I need to reset the postions of the programs.

Can display fusion help me out by not changing anything in the layout when a screen is switched on or off?

Thank you

The new Triggers feature in the latest DisplayFusion Beta should help out there. Please see this guide for details: https://www.displayfusion.com/Discussions/View/automatically-saving-and-restoring-window-positions-on-dockundock/?ID=5540c67a-5e2b-4f41-b88c-de4d9c2fa354

The guide is written using the example of a laptop docking/undocking, but it should help in your scenario as well.

Please let me know if you still run into any trouble at all.

Thanks!

That's strange! How many Monitor Profiles do you have saved?

Only one extra, besides the already default present one

Ok, could you send me a backup of your settings? You can do this with the Export Settings button on the Options tab.

Thanks!

Thanks! There don't seem to be any Monitor Profiles in this backup. If you open the DisplayFusion Monitor Configuration window and click the "Manage Monitor Profiles" button, are any showing up there?

Thanks! Those are Wallpaper Profiles. You need to save Monitor Profiles for the steps in that guide to work. More info on Monitor Profiles here: https://www.displayfusion.com/Discussions/View/working-with-displayfusion-monitor-profiles/?ID=5f41fdbd-bb4f-4052-8de2-a34e47468ec0

I was able to get the settings right, but I guess I'm doing something wrong. When I shut downn a monitor the program shown on that screen still jumps to the other screen.

Does it have something to do with the "false" indication in the process column?

That "false" value is ok. It looks like you only have one Trigger rule though. You'll need both rules in the guides. One for saving window positions on a timer (steps 3-8), and the other for loading them when the monitor profile changes (steps 9-14).

Thanks for your help so far, but still no luck.

Both screens are on. I open outlook twice on both screen once and set them to the desired tasks. When I turn one screen off, outlook immediately jumps to the other screen that is still on. When I turn the screen back on outlook stays on the second screen and doesn't come back to the first screen.

Am I missing something in the settings, I checked it several times?

From your screenshot I think it's configured correctly. Can you try this?
  • Open your Outlook windows and position them on the 2 monitors.
  • Run the "Save Window Positions" function manually (you can assign a key combination to it on the Settings > Functions tab).
  • Power off your monitor, the windows should all move to the first monitor.
  • Power the second monitor back on.
  • Run the "Restore Window Positions" function manually (assign a key combination to it as well). Do the windows go back to where they should be?

No, this also doesn't work. When I hit the assigned keys a pop-up appears with: Current screen configuration saved and load the saved configuration, but nothing happens.

Are the Outlook windows maximized when you save the positions? If so, could you try the same steps, but with non-maximized Outlook windows to see if that makes any difference?

This has no effect. I assume I can save the screens, because this is mentioned in the pop up screen from Displayfusion. As soon as I turn one screen off, the opened outlook jumps to the other screen. When I turn it back on an hit the shortcut key, nothing happens except the pop screen mentioning that the screens are restored.

Is Outlook the only application that has this issue? Or if you save positions of other applications, do they also not restore correctly?
