I see this more often on my Windows 7 laptop than I do on my Windows 10 desktop. I have many windows and tabs open, so my machine is typically under heavy load, but still, with an i5 CPU and 32 GB of RAM I'd expect it shouldn't take the DF taskbar several seconds to react to a click.

I found quite a few similar reports in the forum, but no clear advise as to what could be the cause of this issue or how to resolve it.

Are there any workarounds?

Have you already tried the latest 9.7 Beta version? We've made a bunch of performance improvements, so hopefully it helps here too!

  • On the Settings > Options tab, enable the "Check for new Beta (newer, unstable) versions" option
  • Click the Apply button
  • Click the "Check for Updates" button

If not, please let me know.

Thanks!

Hello,
I have just updated to the latest version, and now the whole system is sluggish. DF is using in excess of 45% CPU time, and DF taskbar is simply frozen, unresponding. Never been this bad. Even launching settings often leads to the app not responding for entire minutes. Win10 64bit

Hi Giulio,

Can you try out this build and see if there's any change in CPU usage? https://www.binaryfortress.com/Files/DisplayFusion/DisplayFusionSetup-9.7.1-TEST2b.exe

Thanks!

Dear Owen,
I had a few issues completing the update, as I needed to regain administration rights on my laptop. First of all, I have already switched to the beta 3 version, and the CPU issue is gone, completely. DF works at average 3% CPU time. I have noticed, though, that everytime I update it, all the .scr files being overwritten are somehow locked down by windows, and even if I am administrator, I am forced to skip them to complete the installation.

Hi Giulio,

Glad to hear the CPU usage issues are fixed!

Are these the default screensavers or third party screensavers that you have to skip over?

Thanks!

Hi, I belive those are the default screen savers from the windows system.
I don't know whether Acronis, Malwarebytes, or company policies could play a role in this, but I fear it might be more likely something linked to Windows protecting some of the system folders or files. Attaching a presentation with the screen shots.
Thanks

I had some issues before with the Trusted Installer policy (I believe that to be the cause) effectively locking down upgrades, as the executable files the update needed to overwrite were simply locked down with no possibility of administrative override. I was forced to reboot to erase the remnants and install anew. Happened with Adobe updates a lot of times.

Hi Giulio,

It sounds like there are some group policy settings preventing you from changing things, including your wallpaper. Unfortunately there's nothing we can do on our end to help, but you can talk to your IT department to try to get that changed.

Thanks!
