I switched back from Avast to plain ol' Windows Defender earlier today and noticed things like resizing windows and moving windows being incredibly sluggish and Defender's CPU usage spiking a bit. What I then noticed was that it only happened with DisplayFusion on. I found a forum post about disabling application hooks in DF which I did, and the problem stopped.

I had this problem a while back last time I switched to Defender, but I thought it was Defender causing it so I just switched back to Avast. This means it isn't just the version of DF I'm using (9.3). I'm pretty sure it happened while I was using 8.X too.

What I'm wondering is why this happened in the first place, and how to resolve this issue as without the application hooks my multi monitor taskbars are a bit slow and some things don't work as well. I've added DF's Program Files folder to Defender's exclusions, no dice. I'm not sure what could be causing this to happen or how to proceed.

Here's a short video showing what I'm talking about:

GTX 1080
Windows 10 Pro

Wow, that's super strange! I haven't run into that before at all, any chance you could backup your DisplayFusion settings (Settings > Options > Export) and attach them so that I can test using your settings?

If you could include a copy of your troubleshooting info as well, that would be great.

  • Open the Settings > Troubleshooting tab
  • Click the "Export Info to File" button
  • Reply with the file attached

Thanks!

No worries! I'll restore these on a test system and see what I can find out.

Ah! I think I know what's happening here. Do you also have debug logging enabled in DisplayFusion? If so, can you try disabling it and see if you can still reproduce this issue?

Seems like that was it! I don't remember ever turning on debug logging, but I turned it off and everything runs as it should. Thanks a lot :)

No worries, glad to hear it! I noticed in the log that you had L2 logging on, which writes a ton to the log file, so the antivirus must have been re-scanning the file over and over again :)
