Hi all,

First off I just want to say how fantastic & professional the Display Fusion software is - top marks :) I've been using it for years with my 4 screens and all was fine until upgrading to Windows 8.1

The issue I'm having is with the Windows 8 startup screen (Metro interface). When windows starts, the Metro interface appears for about 10 seconds (presumably whilst Display Fusion is loading) then it disappears and I see my desktop - but only on the primary monitor.

The extended displays are still in Metro interface mode (they appear blue but if I click, I get the Metro icons etc). If I open an desktop program that uses the extended displays -or- if I click & drag an open windows across the extended screens - they return to desktop mode.

Any advice on how to fix this would be much appreciated. I will post what I've tried so far in a few minutes...

Thanks in advance
Alex

This is what I've tried so far:

I completely uninstalled Display Fusion 5.1 (stable release) deleting all of my preferences and settings.
After rebooting; Windows loaded into the Metro interface and stayed there. As soon as I select desktop mode; all of the screens (not just the primary) return to desktop mode as they should.

The above proves to me that it's a Display Fusion related issue so I did some digging on this forum to look for anybody with a similar issue - no joy, so I decided to try using 5.1.1 (beta) to see if it had a fix:

I installed Display Fusion 5.1.1 (beta) with the default settings - Sadly after rebooting again, the issue is still present - only the primary monitor returns to desktop mode.

Any help much appreciated.

They say speaking to yourself if the first sign of madness :P

I've discovered that Windows 8.1 offers a native option to bypass the start-up screen and go straight to the desktop:

I hope this isn't against forum rules.. here's a link on how to do that:

This has solved my issue. I suspect Display Fusion's option to "Bypass the Windows 8 Start Screen" will need to be altered to take Windows 8.1's new functionality into account.

Thanks for posting the solution! I'll add this to our list as well, as we should probably set it up so that all monitors go to the desktop when that option is enabled :)

We've just released a new DisplayFusion beta version (http://www.displayfusion.com/Download/Beta/) and this issue should be all fixed up. Please let us know if you run into any trouble after updating.

Thanks!

Hi Keith,

Thanks for the update.

Due to several issues with 3rd party drivers and software issues with Windows 8.1 (the penalty for being an early adopter!) I decided to revert back to Windows 8 - so I can't confirm if your fix worked or not.

I will probably make the transition to Windows 8.1 again in a month or two - if the fix is still in beta - I will report back.

Thanks
Al.
