I have the option turned on to display the Start button on both screens. It appears to work correctly when I use the Start menu on the 2nd screen. However, after doing so, then the menu only appears on the 2nd screen, even when I click on the Start menu on the primary screen. I'd send a screen shot, but I don't think it will mean much. Here's how to test this:
1. Activate the Start menu on the 2nd screen.
2. Use the 2nd screen Start menu to open a file or app. So far, it works good.
3. Use the primary screen Start menu to open a file or app. Oops! The menu only opens on the 2nd screen, even though I'm clicking on the primary screen. Can't find any way to make it stop doing this.

The only way I can get it to work again, is to shut down DF and restart it. Disabling the 2nd screen Start button doesn't fix it; I have to completely shut down DF to reset the bug. I'm running WinXP SP3, DF Pro v4.0.1 (stable).

I've tested this out here but haven't been able to reproduce the issue. Would you be able to update to the latest Beta version (http://www.displayfusion.com/Download/Beta/) and then do the following to help us troubleshoot the issue?
  • Enable debug logging on the Troubleshooting tab (set it to Logging: All Lines) and click Apply
  • Reproduce the issue, clicking the Start button on the Primary monitor a bunch of times (please note the time so I'll know where to look in the log file)
  • Send me the %appdata%\DisplayFusion\DisplayFusion.log file (can be found by clicking the 'Open Log' button on the Troubleshooting tab)
Thanks!

Hi,
I got exactly the same issue on my 2 pilot computers.

Windows XP SP3 French Canadian, 32 bits, DF pro 4.0.1

I have to hit the windows key in primary screen and it working again until I use the start button on second screen.

Do you know how to disable the start button and time… in the other entire screen but keeping the taskbar?

Thanks!

I have the same thing with the beta version.

Interesting! Could you attach a copy of the info from the DisplayFusion Settings > Troubleshooting tab?

You can disable the Start button and the clock by right-clicking the taskbar and navigating to the Multi-Monitor Taskbar sub-menu. All of the per-taskbar options are located there :)

Thanks!

Hi Keith,
I've been out of town for a couple of weeks, but I finally got around to doing this. I'm attaching the .log file; this entire log basically represents the test. I cleared the log just before installing the beta version, and turned it off after I ran the test, so everything here represents the test. It's total Martian to me, but hopefully it has some meaning for you...

Thanks guys! @Nog69: Could you also post a copy of the info from the Troubleshooting tab?

Hello;

Same issue here. Only issue I have with this great app! Would love to go pro, but this is a bit of an annoying issue.
I've attached a log file like requested above.

Kind regards;

Aha! Thanks for the logs Niko. I've finally been able to reproduce this issue by setting the Windows XP Start Menu to the Classic Start Menu style.

We'll get cracking on this and hopefully have it fixed up for the next beta.

Thanks!

Hello;

Thanks for the feedback. What's the status, any idea where to look?

I'm afraid there is yet another issue on win xp sp3. The window snapping doesn't seem to work.

Kind regards;

Niko

We haven't made any progress on the Start menu issue yet, but the Window Snapping seems to work fine for me in Windows XP with DisplayFusion 4.1 Beta 14. Do you have the Application Hooks option in the Advanced Settings disabled?

Thanks for the feedback. Application hooks are enabled but snapping doesn't work. But that's not that important to me. The start menu issue is more of an issue.

I have some good news! It looks like we've found the Start Menu bug, and we should have it all fixed up for the next version. I'll be sure to post an update when it's available.

@Niko: Regarding the Window Snapping not working, can you check to see if you have the "Show window contents while dragging" option enabled in Windows? More info here: http://www.displayfusion.com/KB/TroubleshootingInfo#enableshowwindowcontents

Indeed, the snapping issue is fixed by enabling 'display content while dragging'.
Thanks for the feedback.
Looking forward to the start menu fix.

Excellent! The Start menu should also be fixed in the just-released DisplayFusion 4.1. Could you give it a try when you have a chance?

Thanks!

Keith: Just wanted to let you know I've seen your solution thread here, and I'm looking forward to checking it out. I'm out of town for awhile, so I'll update to the latest version and validate the fix when I get back home (might be a couple of weeks). My home server is the only PC that has XP and multiple monitors, so I have to wait until I return to verify it, but I'll let you know then.

Finally got back into town and confirmed, this fix is working correctly in XP. Woohoo! I know you got other confirmations, but I started this, and I get closure on such few things life, I wanted to finish it also. Thanks for your diligence on this, so glad I can use my Start button again!
