Thanks Chris! Everything looks ok in the Troubleshooting info. Could you do the following to help us troubleshoot further?
  • Update to the latest DisplayFusion beta: http://www.displayfusion.com/Download/Beta/
  • Enable debug logging on the Troubleshooting tab (set it to Logging: Important Only) and click Apply
  • Restart DisplayFusion
  • Click the Start button on the DisplayFusion taskbar a few times, once every 5 seconds or so (please note the time so I'll know where to look in the log file)
  • Send me the %appdata%\DisplayFusion\DisplayFusion.log file (can be found by clicking the 'Open Log' button on the Troubleshooting tab)
  • Disable debug logging after sending me the log
Thanks!

Thanks Chris! When I compared your log to mine (from a working system), I noticed that my Start menu has a window style of WS_VISIBLE, where as yours doesn't. Do you have any software that would be hiding or altering the standard Windows 7 Start menu?

Some programs like ObjectDock or RocketDock will try and hide the taskbar and/or Start menu I believe.

I have nothing installed (and running). The only other thing I have installed is Actuall Tools Manager, which is another desktop tool like Display Fusion, but it is not running. I did uninstall that and tried again with same problem.

I do not start either tool with a Windows boot. I run each one seperately as I need tools from each depending on what I'm doing.

I should be worth noting that Actual Tools had the EXACT same problem in an older build of their software (never had Display Fusion installed) and they fixed up until recently. Whatever is the problem is affecting both products.

As of beta 8, this is coming up on the proper monitor again.

I started having this issue with Beta 8. I now have no start menu on my DF taskbar, as it only opens on the main windows taskbar.

It makes no difference whether ObjectDock Pro is running or not. I was having issues with the clrSharp2 Glass skin opening over itself on the DF start button, but with Beta 8, no more start menu on the DF monitor #2.

Attached is my settings profile.

@Chris: Glad to hear it's working again. Would you be able to do the steps in post #4 again so that I can compare the debug logs from when it was broken and when it's working?

@Mark: If you choose a different Skin in Classic Shell, does the Start menu open on the correct monitor?

Thanks!

@Mark: Disregard my previous request. I was able to reproduce the issue using the clrSharp2 skin. We'll hopefully have it fixed up for Beta 9.

Thanks!

@Chris: let me know if your Start menu breaks in Beta 9. Hopefully it won't :)

Thanks!

Keith, all my issues with clrSharp2 Glass skin have been fixed in Beta 9.

Thanks!

I do have one additional question. When I hit the DF start button, the taskbar on the windows screen unhides and stays unhidden whilst using the DF start button. When I hit the start button on the Windows taskbar, the DF taskbar doesn't unhide, and operates normally.. Is this a normal function, or should they operate independently? No biggie either way.

Thanks again;

Sarris

Excellent, glad to hear it! Unfortunately we don't currently have a way to keep the Windows taskbar from unhiding when activating the DF Start menu, but it is on our list, so if we're able to find a way in the future, we'll definitely fix it!

With beta9 the startmenu pops up on wrong screen again. Reinstalled beta8 and it's working again.

Same issue here with Start8.
DF start menu button emulates a Windows key press and will open whatever start option I have selected in Start8 on the primary monitor.
Clicking on the DF menu button does not always work either, it erratic in its behaviour to say the least.

Strangeness from the logs:

@Johan: You'll need the latest Start8 beta which was just released by Stardock last night. You should be able to access the beta if you login to your account on the Stardock site.

@Chris: Thanks!

@Chris: Just wanted to see if you were still having this issue in Beta 11, and if so, could you send over the debug logs? Please make sure to restart DisplayFusion after enabling debug logging so that we have a complete log from start to finish.

Thanks!

Ok, are you able to send the logs as per the instructions in post #4? We're not able to reproduce it here, so without the logs we're lost. Please make sure to restart DisplayFusion after enabling debug logging but before you click the Start button.

Nope, sorry. Does not work with 1.11 (1.10.1) beta either.
DF is just imitating a Windows key press when it comes to selecting to open a Start8 menu or the Modern UI Start. And still on the primary monitor.

I was just about to order some 5.1 copies for work when I ran into this issue.

I have 5.1 installed on Windows 7 Enterprise, and the Start Menu always opens on the Windows 7 taskbar, not the DF taskbar, when I click the DF taskbar button. This did not happen in Beta 13 (I think that was my previous version).

And now something I have done has corrected the issue - not sure if it was restarting DF multiple times, or something else.
