setting taskbar to transparent sets also the icons to transparent. It would be nice if one could set only the taskbar itself to transparent but the icons remain visible.

Like in this screenshot of my entire desktop. You see the right taskbar is transparent but the icons not. The second taskbar you just faintly see the icon if you set transparency.

Unfortunately, this is a limitation with the way Windows handles form (window) opacity. When I adjust the opacity for the taskbar window it also affects the buttons as well. They can't be adjusted independently from one another. :(
