Please forgive me if this is already answered, I dug through the forums but I didn't find anything.
I am new to DisplayFusion, I have always used Ultramon but the lack of Windows 7 support is driving me crazy. The only thing I use is the taskbar on each monitor feature however I can't seem to get this to work properly with DisplayFusion 3.0.3. What i want (I think) is the "All taskbars show relevant windows" option however that is greyed out and not selectable. Is this greyed out because of Windows 7 and if so is this something that will be changed in a later release?

Are you using windows 7? If so what build.

I don't understand why the Pro trial version would not have this available. Can someone confirm that this does work in the paid version?

Hi, sorry for the confusion. The "All taskbars show relevant windows" is currently unavailable in Windows 7. The reason for this is that I don't currently have a good way of "hiding" the taskbar items on the Windows 7 taskbar. Because the taskbar items also double as the shortcut, I really don't want to mess with them. Once the Windows 7 SDK goes out of beta I will be investing much more time into adding this feature. For now, you can have the Windows 7 taskbar display all the windows, and the DisplayFusion taskbar can display only the relevant windows. Thanks!

Thank you for the response; I do appreciate the complexity of the issue. Please update this post when you have something worked out. I would love to purchase this software but I can't if the only feature I use does not work as I need it to.

Honestly, I'd be very much surprised is anyone will be able to figure this out. The new W7 taskbar (as Jon said, doubles as a shortcutbar) looks to be serious trouble and segregating it's shortcuts from actual running programs kind of defeats it's whole purpose. Jon's a smart one though. :-D

The methods I use for Win2000, XP and Vista don't work in Win7 anymore. And the methods that do work in Win7 (and also work in WinXP and Vista) have some serious downsides. Benway: Do you remember in one of the early version 3 betas (maybe around beta 7), when you minimized/maximized a window it's taskbar button would briefly appear in the Windows taskbar before being removed again? This is what I would have to use in Windows 7, and it's definitely not perfect. I'm probably going to wait until Windows 7 goes final before investing a lot of time into it, as I'm hoping some new options will present themselves. :)

I am sure trying to add functionality on top of the MS products is a major challenge; if they had talented developers like Jon on staff we wouldn't have this problem.

Keep up the great work.

This is definitely possible, since UltraMon manages it, so I'm sure you'll find a solution. I'm a dev myself, although not a windows app one, so I understand the trials you're going through. I'm actually using both at the moment; the DF taskbar is better than the UM one, but the UM handling of per monitor tasks is better. I hide the UM taskbar under the DF one, so I get the best of both worlds.

I bought the Pro version the other day and this is the only thing stopping me from loving DF at the moment. For me, having only the tasks for the appropriate monitor on the task bar is the prime reason for using a taskbar manager. You appear to have more active development and are communicating with your users more, which always makes me feel better about a product.

Yeah, not sure if you're the same poster from the Windows 7 forums (sevenforums.com) who mentioned doing the same thing, but Jon is registered there as well and is monitoring that one post where I keep (unashamedly) pushing DF as a UM alternative.

The overlay of DF on top of UM sounds pretty neat, but with the RC just around the corner I think I'll wait for just a bit before I start playing with both products....

Nope, I'm not on the the W7 forums. I'm running the RC with both DF and UM. I really don't think MS have done the multi-monitor community and favours with the new taskbar; running them both together gives me the right tasks, but you still get the weird effect of minimising, where windows itself shows the animation back to the first monitor, even if the app is on the second.

I've had W7 RC up and running all weekend and it (as well as DF) is rock solid. Should be a good foundation for Jon to build on...

@DaveSussman: Windows 7 support is very high on my list. I'm aiming for full support in the 3.1 release of DisplayFusion. :)

@benway - yes, both very stable. I'm impressed with W7 so far; a good improvement on Vista and it's certainly speedier having done an upgrade.

@Jon - I've assumed full support would start working it's way in now the RC is out. Trust me, I really do understand the issues, I've been there myself; I worked with the Microsoft ASP.NET team when they were building the first version and we had daily builds, where the API changed from one day to the next. It was a nightmare. I eagerly await 3.1.
