I have had this issue for a while, and I saw a few discussions with the same issue ranging back to 2014-2015, but all of them simply had inquiries as to whether the user could still get into the Monitor Configuration (I can) but no explanation as to what that would mean.

So the short of it is, if I click on 'Settings' or 'Desktop Wallpaper' from the right-click menu on the tray icon, I see the Display Fusion banner and the animation and then it disappears and nothing. There is an apparently frozen process for Display Fusion Settings that I have to end process on.

I can get into Monitor Configuration as stated, not that it helps when managing desktop wallpaper settings.

And for reference this occurs with both 2 and 3 displays attached (hdmi/dp/dvi).

Is DisplayFusion.exe or DisplayFusionSettings.exe blocked in the Windows Firewall on your system?

No they do not appear to be. I see entries for DisplayFusion and it's marked as allowed.

Ok, could you enable debug logging (you'll have to do this through the registry) and send me a debug log? Here are the steps:
  • Exit DisplayFusion (important!)
  • Change the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Binary Fortress Software\DisplayFusion\LogDebugLevel value to 1 in the registry.
  • Start DisplayFusion.
  • Try to open the Settings window.
  • Send me the "DisplayFusion.log" file from %LOCALAPPDATA%\DisplayFusion.

Thanks!

You bet, here you go.

Thanks! The logs don't show any errors related to those windows failing to open. Could you try exiting DisplayFusion, setting the LogDebugLevel to 2, then try the Settings window again and attach the debug log?

Here you go.

You may see in the logs that I killed task on both settings and wallpaper windows after they failed to start/appear.

any luck with this?

I'm to the point now that I'm just going to wipe and reinstall windows, as I'm assuming that should clear the problem once and for all.

No luck, sorry, the logs still don't show any failures, so I'm pretty stumped on this. Just one more question, after the splash screen disappears, if you press Alt+Tab, is the Settings window shown there? Just wondering if it's somehow ending up off the screen?

I had tried alt-tabbing, and no there was nothing hiding. There were also no icons on any of the taskbars, for the settings/wallpaper windows.

That said, after a fresh install on a reinstall OS, everything is working fine and as expected. Thanks! :)

Excellent, glad to hear the fresh install did the trick!

I also have the problem that the Desktop Wallpaper screen doesn't open (neither does any loading screen for it). Everything else appears to work.

I have restarted DF and tried to open Desktop Wallpaper while Logging was at 2 - I hope that helps.

Could you send me a copy of your troubleshooting info? Here are the steps:
  • Open the Settings > Troubleshooting tab
  • Click the "Export Info to File" button
  • Reply with the file attached

Thanks!

This is my current debugInfo - I'm not sure whether the L2 log period is still in the log...

Thanks for sending that over. If you install Webview2 manually (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/p/?LinkId=2124703) and then restart DisplayFusion, does the issue persist?

Installing the runtime and restarting DF didn't fix the issue.

If you open the DisplayFusion Settings > Our Apps, does that page fail to load as well?

Interesting, does this happen on v9.9 as well?

I was using this functionality before I upgraded to v10, so at some point it certainly worked. (I had high CPU usage issues with v9, so I'm reluctant to downgrade)

The WebView installer threw an error (WebView2 Runtime failed, code -2147012889 with abort/retry/ignore); retrying threw the same error, ignoring let the setup proceed.

The wallpaper settings screen works fine now - perhaps the error is a side effect of some anti microsoft spyware firewall rules I have installed, and my manual installation already provided all dependencies...

We've been trying to reproduce this on our end without any luck. Are you using a custom Windows ISO?
