Hello,

I'm pretty sure this began when this months security updates for Windows 8.1 were installed. If the "Use transitions when changing wallpaper " is checked, wallpaper image is generated, (its in %appdata%\DisplayFusion folder) but it is not applied for some reason. Using ver 6b2, rollback to 5.1.1 didnt fix it. Reinstalled/rebooted several times.

2 attachments, first one with transitions off->change wallpaper, second one with transitions on->change wallpaper.

Only way to get wallpaper to change in any way using DF seems to be turning the transition effect off. CTRL+WIN+R shortcut nor the Desktop Wallpaper change it with the setting on. Any ideas? :) Sudden change in wallpapers makes me jump a bit. :D

Ok, could you attach a new debug log?
  • Enable debug logging on the Troubleshooting tab (set it to Logging: Important Only) and click Apply
  • Restart your computer
  • Reproduce the issue (please note the time so I'll know where to look in the log file)
  • Attach the %appdata%\DisplayFusion\DisplayFusion.log file to this topic (can be found by clicking the 'Open Log' button on the Troubleshooting tab)
  • Disable debug logging after sending me the log

Thanks!

Bummer! So the Load Next Wallpaper hotkey still works fine, it just won't change on the timer?

Hotkey doesn't work nor does it doesn't change it on the timer. W8.1 is fully updated. (losing my sanity with this too) :D

E: with timer, it doesn't even generate the new WP, with hotkey, its generated, but not applied

Ok, just a quick test, if you kill explorer.exe and then launch it again (or just reboot your machine), does the wallpaper then change correctly for a while?

Could you also post a copy of the info from the Settings > Troubleshooting tab? (make sure debug logging is enabled and applied before refreshing and copying the Troubleshooting info)

Ok, another quick question for you. Are you able to set the wallpaper via the normal Windows Personalization settings, or does that fail too?

Ok, and when you pick a new wallpaper using the Windows settings, does it do the transition?

Keith, I feel like a moron. :'( ???

Your latest question prompted me to google a bit, and apparently "Turn off all unnecessary animations (when possible)" in Windows' Ease of Access was ticked on, removing the ticker worked. ::) Think it turned itself automatically on because of my performance settings.

Would be cool to have a warning about that, or it unticked automatically when DF setting is ticked and applied for that though.

Thanks for extended patience with this one.

You're definitely not a moron! I had no idea that setting even existed :)

Glad to hear that it's all good now, and thanks for letting us know what solved it. We'll definitely look into adding a warning in DisplayFusion if that setting is enabled.

Thanks!

I'd like to add to this thread in case anyone else is having an issue with DF not transitioning between wallpapers in Windows 7. While the Ease of Access Unnecessary Animations trick works, you can also fix the problem by going to System > Advanced system settings > Advanced > Performance and changing the settings under Custom. It appears that as long as "Animate controls and elements inside windows" is checked, the wallpaper transitions work. The other animation options can be changed as desired. I'm not entirely sure, but this fix may not apply to the Starter and Home Basic editions of Windows 7 since their Aero features are different than higher editions. DisplayFusion should include a warning about that option being disabled, or it should just automatically enable it when "Use transitions when changing wallpaper" is enabled in Wallpaper Settings. Thanks for reading this. Your program is awesome.

Thanks Josh! I'm not sure if we can change that setting programmatically, but we'll check and see if we can :)
