Hello,

I have recently upgraded from v5 to v6 and noticed that DF taskbars now have lower quality / different icons than native taskbar when 'Use small icons' (in native taskbar properties) option is set.

It seems that DF taskbars now always use 32x32 (or larger) icons, even if the option is set. In that case, native taskbar uses 16x16 icons while DF taskbars use downsampled 32x32 icons. It does not look that well because the downsampled icons look quite blurry and in some cases 16x16 and 32x32 icons are very different.

I believe that DF taskbars should show the same icons as native taskbar (so 16x16 if 'Use small icons' option is set and 32x32 if it is not) UNLESS you manually set DF taskbars to different size - I believe that this change relates to the ability to show higher quality icons when DF is set to higher size than native taskbar. I think that most people want DF taskbar to be as similar as possible to the native one and have the size set to automatic.

I've tested out the small icons mode here, and they look the same for me between 5.1.1 and 6.0 with the programs I tested. Are there specific programs that have taskbar buttons that look worse that 6.0? Also, do you have font/DPI scaling enabled in Windows?

See following pictures (one from v5.1, one from v6.0). These are from my Windows 8.1 machine. I have disabled per-display DPI scaling, it had no effect.

EDIT: Just managed to get ahold of v5.1.1. It shows correct icons (same as native taskbar). So the problem was indeed introduced in v6.0.

Ah, thanks for the screenshots! I was testing in Windows 7, didn't try Windows 8. I can confirm the same results here in Win 8 and I've added this to our list. We'll let you know as soon as it's fixed up :)

Thanks!

Glad to hear that! Please note, however, that I have the issue on Windows 7 as well (see my first post).

Ok, yeah, it must have just been that the programs I tested with in Win 7 looked more or less the same between the two versions then :)

We've just released a new DisplayFusion beta version (http://www.displayfusion.com/Download/Beta/) and this issue should be all fixed up. Please let us know if you run into any trouble after updating.

Thanks!

Icons of unpinned programs look great, but the issue remains for icons pinned to DF taskbar. :)
