After updating from v9.5 Beta 1 to v9.5 Beta 2, whenever I use my hotkeys (or middle click on the window's title bar) to move windows to the next/previous monitor, the order in which the window moves from monitor to monitor is completely different than it has always been and it is totally illogical.

I have 3 displays total and 2 of them are in portrait with horizontal monitor splits. My setup looks like this:
https://i.snag.gy/ca0kmZ.jpg

As you can see, I manually labeled my split monitors with bright red text so I can more easily illustrate the problem.

In the years that I've been using DisplayFusion, the order in which a window would move (when using the "Move Window to Next Monitor" hotkey) between monitors is as follows:
2.1 -> 2.2 -> 1 -> 3.1 -> 3.2
If pressed again, the window would then wrap back around to 2.1 again.

After updating to the newest beta however, the order in which the windows move now is as follows:
2.1 -> 1 -> 3.1 -> 2.2 -> 3.2
If pressed again, the window wraps back around to 2.1 again.

I don't know if this is just a simple bug or if this was an intentional change in the way DisplayFusion perceives monitor order or something, but clearly its a bit offputting to change something like this that has been working the same way for many, many years. Please let me know if I can provide any logs or anything else that would be helpful. I will wait a half a day or so before reverting back to the previous beta in case there is something you need from me (while I'm still running the new beta). Thanks for your help.

That's really strange! We didn't make any deliberate changes that would cause that. Could you send me a copy of your troubleshooting info? Here are the steps:

  • Open the Settings > Troubleshooting tab
  • Click the "Export Info to File" button
  • Reply with the file attached

Please disregard my last message, we've found the bug and we'll have it fixed up for 9.5 Beta 4.

Thanks!

Ah, very good! I was going to ask why it wasn't going to be fixed for 9.5 Beta 3... but then I checked the beta download page and figured out why (Beta 3 was released today). I think I will just roll back to Beta 1 now and wait for the release of Beta 4. Thank you for your help!

This issue should be fixed up in the latest beta, available here: https://www.displayfusion.com/Download/Beta. Please let me know if you still run into any trouble after updating.

Thanks!

I'm having the same problem. Just updated to DF Pro 9.6.1.

I have 3 monitors - 1 (left) & 2 (right) are side by side with 3 above / centered.

Next monitor used to go 1 - 2 - 3 Counter Clockwise. Prev went backwards.
Now Next Monitor goes 1 - 3 - 2. Clockwise.

Don't see any settings to change the order. Getting ready to change the button assignments if needed.

Sorry, should have read your post more carefully. We have reproduced this issue here and we're hoping to have it fixed up for the next point release.

Thanks!

Great! Thanks. Any ETA on that release? Will a notice be sent out about it's release? This is very frustrating. :)

The issue has been fixed internally, and we're just finishing up final testing on it. We should have a beta out later this week :)

I also had this issue with the buttons moving windows in the wrong direction (screens set up like a L rotated 180 degrees) and today's beta fixed it. Thanks!

Just downloaded and installed. Working properly again! :)

I tried to check for a new version within the product and even when I checked the box to include beta, it didn't find it. Had to download manually. Not a big deal but . . .

Thanks for fixing the issue quickly!

Does it use the monitor order from "display settings"? If not, how does it choose order. I have a left monitor (2), and middle top (3) and bottom (1) monitor and a right monitor (4). I assumed it would go clockwise based on the windows monitor numbers: bottom middle (1), left (2), top middle (3) and right (4), but instead it goes left, top mid, bottom mid, right. Is there a way to tell it the preferred order? (I am currently on 9.9)

DisplayFusion tries to order the monitors from top left, to bottom right, but various monitor setups can return odd results.

If the order isn't correct, or you would prefer to have it changed, you can use our "Monitor Order" advanced setting to adjust it: https://www.displayfusion.com/AdvancedSettings/?Version=9.9.99.112#general_monitororder

Thanks!

thank you I will try that.

(edit): I tried applying the info as provided and it's NOT very clear. I eventually got it to work, but it took a while.

Might I suggest (for laymen) rather than listing the key as:

HKCU\Software\Binary Fortress Software\DisplayFusion\MonitorsForceOrder

that you list it as:

HKCU\Software\Binary Fortress Software\DisplayFusion\

with a "new string value" of "MonitorsForceOrder" and the values as listed.

Perhaps also the layman won't understand that HKCU stands for: HKEY_Current_User

Ah sorry, I should have been more clear. Those settings are meant to be adjusted via the DisplayFusion Settings > Advanced Settings window, as mentioned at the top of that page. Manually creating the registry keys does work as well though :)

Thanks!

Owen, is it possible to use this(or some other method) to re-arrange the order of splits, not just monitors? I've a setup that's 3, 1, 2 physically, with 3 in portrait mode and split so one split is on top of the other. I was hoping to chagne the "next/previous" order of 3.2 and 3.1.

As it stands, it goes 3.1, 3.2, 1, 2. But I would like it to go 3.2, 3.1, 1, 2. The registry key/advanced option didn't seem to work, unless I have the wrong syntax? I've input it as "3.2, 3.1, 1, 2".

I believe that setting uses a 0 instead of the decimal, so you'll put "302, 301, 1, 2".
