Hi Keith,
I use Nirsoft volumouse to control system volume with the mouse scroll wheel. I have it set such that when the mouse cursor is over the taskbar, I can scroll the wheel and change volume. I can't get this to work with my secondary monitor taskbar. There's even an option where I can choose the target window, I choose the DFTaskbar, and still no luck. Does this sound like an easy fix?

Congrats on coming out of beta on DF, I absolutely love this program, best money spent!

Thanks! It might be a mouse hooking issue. Does it work when scrolled over the Windows taskbar?

I works great over the regular main windows taskbar. I used it before I installed DF, and it still works, but only on the main taskbar.

Ok, thanks! I'll do some testing with it here, and we'll let you know if we're able to make it work when hovering over the DF taskbar as well :)

I was able to test this out here, and it actually works if you run Volumouse as administrator then setup the option to control the volume when the mouse is over the DFTaskbar window. This is likely because DF runs at a higher integrity than Volumouse by default, but by running Volumouse as administrator, it has high integrity as well and can "see" the DFTaskbar window :)

Hope that helps!

I guess the next logical question is how to start volumouse automatically with windows as an administrator?

You might be able to do it with a Scheduled Task, but I'll test that out when I get a chance this week and let you know how it goes.

Thanks!

Yep! You can create a Scheduled Task in Windows to launch Volumouse with high integrity by enabling the "Run with Highest Privileges" checkbox in Task properties. I've tested it out here, and it seems to work. The only issue is that the Class Name for the DisplayFusion taskbar changes every time the taskbar is loaded, so you have to update the rule in Volumouse each time you restart. Hopefully they add the ability to use a wildcard in future versions of Volumouse :)

Ha that's insane! I think reloading the task each time would be a bit on the obsessive side. Hopefully someone (microsoft) will fix this (doubtful!)

You don't need to change anything in the Scheduled Task, you just need to update the "When the mouse wheel is over this application" rule for the DFTaskbar:guid class.

It seems that it's picking a particular point on the 2nd taskbar, and you pick a different point each time. It's strange that it won't choose the entire bar in my opinion

Nah, any point on the DF taskbar should turn up the same Window Class, until the next time DF restarts. I'm going to try contacting the Volumouse devs to see if they can implement a wildcard for the Window Class matching, so that you could do DFTaskbar* in the rule.

I'll keep you posted if/when I hear back from them :)

Thanks!

I realize this is from a year ago, but have you looked into getting Volumouse to work with the DF 2nd taskbar? I've moved over to Windows 10 and it's still not working. Thanks Keith!

Unfortunately we haven't been able to make it work :(

I tried contacting their support team but never heard back on it. We did add the taskbar class name to the troubleshooting info on the DF Settings > Troubleshooting tab (in the Taskbar [monitor #]) section, so you can at least easily paste that into the settings for Volumouse.

Sorry for the bad news though :(

Yeah I can enter it manually into Volumouse and the class is listed there. Still doesn't work. So weird, guess I'm SOL...

Are you running volumouse as administrator? DisplayFusion runs elevated, so if volumouse is running normally, it won't be able to hook the mouse when it's over a DisplayFusion (or other elevated application).

Nevermind, I just tried it out here and it doesn't work when volumouse is elevated either. If we're able to make this work in the future, I'll be sure to let you know :)

Aha! If you enable the "Run Volumouse application in high priority" option in Volumouse, then exit and start Volumouse as administrator, it works (although the slider appears behind the DF taskbar). It's not ideal, but at least it's somewhat functional :)

Unfortunately, it doesn't survive the reboot. Also, volumouse won't even open at startup for some reason. I'm not married to this program. Is there another way to affect volume control in this way, that isn't volumouse?
