Hello! There's something going on while I'm switching between monitor profiles. It's been happening for a few months, but I rarely used the profiles so frequently as I am now (due to the quarantine), so I think it's time to question it. My version of DisplayFusion is the Pro Standard 9.6.1.

My graphics card is a EVGA Geforce GTX-970. I have three screens plugged into my PC. According to their numbers, they are:

1. A 1920x1080 TV (via HDMI)
2. A 1920x1080 LG Monitor (via DVI)
3. A 1080x1920 LG Monitor (via DisplayPort)

And I have three monitor profiles:

-Cama (Bed)
Monitor 1 turned on at 1920x1080 (horizontal), main screen
Monitor 2 turned off
Monitor 3 turned off

-Normal
Monitor 1 turned off
Monitor 2 turned on at 1920x1080 (horizontal), main screen
Monitor 3 turned on at 1080x1920 (vertical), extended screen

-Todos (All)
Monitor 1 turned on at 1920x1080 (horizontal), extended screen
Monitor 2 turned on at 1920x1080 (horizontal), main screen
Monitor 3 turned on at 1080x1920 (vertical), extended screen

I rarely use the "All" profile. I use the "Normal" profile for while I'm working and the "Bed" profile while I'm playing games on my bed (hence the name).

But when I switch between the "Bed" and "Normal" profiles, I get an error. Let's say I start with the "Normal" profile then switch to "Bed" profile. So far so good. But when I switch back to "Normal", I get an error:

Code

An error has occurred while applying your new Monitor configuration.
Please check your settings and try again.
Error: Failed to call SetDisplayConfig. [HR: 31]
[System.Exception]

BUT, if I switch from "Bed" to "All", and switch back to "Normal", it works.

So summarizing:
"Normal" -> "Bed" -> "Normal" // ERROR
"Normal" -> "Bed" -> "All" -> "Normal" // OKAY

I attached the log info trying to first switch directly to "Normal", then switching to "All" and then "Normal".

It's just an extra step, but it's tiring considering I'm doing this at least twice a day. If there is a way to make it work directly, it would be great.

This should actually be fixed up in the latest 9.7 Beta version, but before updating to it, do you have any Window Position Profiles in your current settings? If so, it's best to wait for 9.7 Beta 11 before updating :)

I don't! But I tried now the 9.7 Beta 10 and things got... worse. I was at "Normal" profile but couldn't switch to "Bed" profile. I was able to switch to "All" profile, but now I can't switch to either "Normal" or "Bed" profiles.

Is there a way to rollback to 9.6.1 without losing my current profiles?

Yep! You can just install 9.6.1 over top and it will keep your settings. We've just released 9.7 Beta 11 as well, would you be able to give that one a try? If they still fail to load in Beta 11, could you try this?

  • Configure the monitor settings manually
  • Save the configuration as a new profile

If re-saving the profile doesn't work, and you'd still like to troubleshoot further, please let me know and I'll send over details on sending debug logs and some other info we need.

Thanks!
