Hi all, so I've been having this issue for some time. The whatsapp trigger just doesn't want to play ball (most of the time), sometimes it randomly works as intended which is when I click to open whatsapp the trigger will move to a selected monitor and then resize. However 90% of the time I have to move the window manually, if anyone can help with solving this that'd be fantastic, thanks.

Try setting the "Delay before checking match condition" to a higher value, like 5000ms and see if it's more consistent. Sometimes the Window Text takes a bit to apply, and DisplayFusion has already fired the trigger so it gets missed.

Gave that a try, waited a few days and still the same issue. The window does not appear where it should. It always starts up and stays in the wrong position on the wrong monitor.

Is the window actually being killed and recreated when you open it, or is it just being sent to the tray and refocused?

The window is starting up on my bottom monitor (monitor 1) but it's very inconsistent with the trigger working correctly, which would be to move the window to my second monitor (monitor 2). The size of the window is correct, it even starts on the left hand side of the screen as intended. However it's simply being started on the wrong monitor and as I mentioned the trigger to move it to the correct monitor is very inconsistent.

If you change the Trigger Event to "Window Focused", does that make any difference at all?

I've been trying to use "window focused" and it's even less reliable then before, where it used to work 3/10 times now it's not working at all.

Ok, we'll do some more testing here to see what we can find out.

When we test here, it seems to work consistently. Would you be able to send a video of it on your machine so we can make sure we're testing correctly?

Thanks!

Hi, I am not sure how to screen record two monitors at once so I've attached a video showing monitor 2 where whatsapp is supposed to trigger. Then I've attached a screenshot of it opening on monitor 1 (the incorrect place) and then a screenshot after I've manually moved it to monitor 2 after the trigger has failed.

Interesting, I'm wondering if it has to do with that custom start menu. What utility are you using for that custom start menu on monitor 2?

It's called "Rainmeter" and then I'm using it with "Droptop" skin, if it's the custome start menu causing an issue then I'd be very stuck given how much utility I have with it! :'(

I´d like to join this discussion as I face a similar problem:

I´m using a 49" Mmoinitor which I divided into 3 parts using Displayfusion. I added a trigger for whatsapp which should move the window to the most right position (or virtual monitor 3). Whatever I try, It´s not firing.

edit: I´m on Windows 11 with no special Taskbar software

Question for you guys, if you do the following, does it move every time?

  • Change the Trigger Event to "Window Focused"
  • Close the settings window
  • Launch WhatsApp
  • Click a different window
  • Click the WhatsApp window

Same behaviour: Whatsapp is Fullscreen over the whole Monitor.

I think that was already suggested a couple of weeks ago in this thread, it didn't work for me either.

Do you guys have WhatsApp installed via the installer downloaded from their site, or through the Microsoft Store?

Ok, strange! It seems to work with both Window Created and Window Focused triggers for me every time. Could you attach a backup of your DisplayFusion Settings? (Settings > Options > Export)

I have attached what you asked for, could I ask what your trigger settings are so that I could try to mirror them. Thanks.

I also have 2 monitors and use Whatsapp web.... I solved the problem by opening Whatsapp, moving it to the monitor I want it on and then pinning it to the taskbar. Then right-click on the pinned WA and check "Force the application to start on the same monitor as the taskbar"...

For me, WA always starts on monitor 2 - all other "problems" are due to MS and the fact that it can only be installed via the MS store.

Hope i've understand your problem right and my way will help you

I´ve set up my settings like you did @Keith and now it works.
Whatsapp was installed from MS Store. In my trigger I´ve set that the that window should move to a specific position (monit1.3). That did not work. Also I´ve set up alle fields instead of only "Window Text". With the exact settings you have posted it works now, thank you!

I gave this some time to ensure that it was fixed before responding, I just wanted to share the good news that since using the exact settings you posted above I have had no issues with triggers. Thank you.
