Hi everyone,
I've been using DF for many years (started in XP) and recently got a new laptop with Windows 10 (14393.rs1.161102_0100) to upgrade from my long-due Windows 7 system..
DF was working fine in my multi-monitor setup under Win7 (my last release was 8.0) and never had an issue with using panorama wallpapers with 2 HP 22" monitors (both 1680x1050). On Windows 10 I first didn't install DF until I realized that the multi-display setup on the taskbar wasn't as nice as with DF, which shows way more usable information.. The other point was that with the new Office 2016 and Skype4B, the shortcut WIN+Y wasn't supported anymore and I needed a 3rd-party SW to handle it.. Remembering that DF had something similar, I installed the latest build of DF 8.1.1 and restored all my settings from my 8.0 setup in Win7. Copied over all my Panorama WP and went into the WP settings.. my panorama profile was still there and I chose to span it accross my 2 monitors.. but alas, win10 doesn't seem to like it. No matter how I plug the monitors (I have a docking station for my HP laptop, 1 is on the VGA output, the other one on the DP thru a VDI converter cable), it's not spanning the WP accross the monitors.. it rather displays the same picture on each monitor. My internal laptop display is disabled, as it's not really usefull and doesn't have the same resolution, but even if I enable it to have 3 monitors to show, the WP is only displayed single on each monitor, not spanned accross as expected.
I have tried everything in Win10 display setup, but no luck.. If I disable the Wallpaper management in DF, and try to manage it with Win10 settings, it's not working anymore (it was working before I installed DF) as the Win settings always jump back to solid color for the background and don't seem to keep the Picture or Slideshow setting saved..
Anyone else having experienced this ?

Thanks in advance for your input.

Since the panorama / strech / span mode doesn't work with DF on Win10, I thought I'd just use a single picture on each monitor.. bad idea, now each monitor displays 2 pictures per half-side of the monitor (see capture attached).. my feeling is that there is something that Win10 doesn't understand with the multi-monitor setup and picture span.. going to try to report after disabling DF's wallpaper management..

Could you attach a copy of your DisplayFusion troubleshooting info after applying the wallpaper?
  • Open the Settings > Troubleshooting tab
  • Click the "Copy to Clipboard" button
  • Paste the text into a text file (please don't paste the text directly into your reply, the formatting gets garbled and makes it difficult to parse)
  • Reply with the file attached

Thank you for the reply.
It's going to go on Monday, since I've already left the office for today. The log file may not reflect the same configuration as when I'm conntected to my 2 external monitors.
BTW, is there a way to e-mail the file directly as an attachement ? looks like a ton of information inside of it, including the license information for the product.. :|

Update on 2016-11-28:
PS: I've attached the troubleshooting log file from DF.

Thanks! The forum attachments are protected by default, so only our staff can view them unless you unprotect them :)

It looks like some other program is messing with the wallpaper after DisplayFusion. The image that's ending up as the final wallpaper is "C:\Toolshed\wallcorp.jpg"

Not sure what that would be. Is it a company computer that might have a desktop wallpaper forced?

Thank you Keith,
Can you be more specific when you say "...messing with the WP after DF... " ?
It is true that on this corporate system the wallpaper is driven by a GPO that is loading the WP by default after the initial desktop login. It is also currently preventing the users on the Windows 7 systems to modify the WP by normal ways in Windows, but this is a Windows 10 system and the GPO's don't apply yet to this type of machine, not the for the locking on the WP settings. The wallcopr.jpg file is present on Win7 & win10 machines by default..
The WP can freely be changed and actually Win10 is fully able to do this, as long as DF doesn't take control over the WP settings..
There is something that interfers with DF on the Win10 side when it comes to the WP settings and I'm going to un-install DF to conduct more tests..
Currently my WP settings are managed by Windows (not DF) and I can only have a different image on each monitor, though the HW & display resolution is identical on both monitors.. The "Span" feature doesn't seem to work anymore after DF got installed.
Will keep you post here on my findings.

Ah ok, so you had disabled the DF wallpaper already before sending the troubleshooting info?

Sorry,
Yes I had.. because as explained in my initial post, the pictures were looking ugly with 2 half-screens displayed on each screen..

I've set the scaling back to 100% (instead of 125%) in hope it would help, and re-eneabled the WP setttings controlled by DF.
Attached is another TS log from DF and a capture of the monitor setup (out of 3, the internal LCD from the laptop is disabled).

Now the panoramic picture still doesn't span accros the 2 monitors, but rather displays the picture once on each monitor (and it looks compressed in the horizontal axis)

No worries, thanks for sending the new info! In the DisplayFusion Desktop Wallpaper > Wallpaper Settings window, can you try disabling the "Use transitions when changing" option and try applying the wallpaper again?

Disabled the settings for 'Transistions" and it had no effect.
Tried also the "Autofix WP images.. " with no effect either..
Sill getting the same picture on each monitor.

Do you login to the computer with a Microsoft account? If so, do you also log into other computers with that same account? Just wondering if this might be caused by the Windows 10 wallpaper syncing.

If you open the Windows 10 wallpaper settings, what's the "Choose a fit" drop-down set to?

it is set to 'stretch'... I changed it to 'span', but I don't think it will change anything.

Ok, interesting! For the DisplayFusion wallpaper to work, it should be set to "Tile." But the weird thing is that DisplayFusion should be setting it to Tile automatically. Could you try changing it to Tile, then apply the wallpaper in DisplayFusion again?

OK,
I did switch back the Win10 settings for the background to 'Tile' and then re-enabled in DF the Wallpaper management for a panoramic display (accross 2 monitors, the 3rd is off and is the internal laptop LCD)..
This is the result (see attachment).

Ok, and if you go back into the Windows wallpaper settings, is it still set to Tile, or did it change back to Stretch again?

Actually, this is an interesting observation.. I never noticed that Win10 automatically sets it back to 'stretch'.. no matter what I select. When I close (or switch option in control pannel), it always comes back this setting.
I don't know if this is a bug, but I can't recall having seen this on my other Win10 systems (but this is the only one equipped with DisplayFusion).. I've another Win10 computer at home with dual-boot which I rarely use in W10, only for testing purposes, so I'm going to validate the settings there too, as it has 2 monitors as well.
My current build : 1607.14393.447
16Gb, Intel HD 520 (driver 20.19.15.483)

It could be that your IT department has set a group policy setting that forces the wallpaper mode to "Stretch." Might be worth checking with them to see if that's the case :)

Nope.. I checked in the group policy..
IT used to have a profile for the Win7 computers to enforce the corporate wallpaper and not allow users to change it.. It looks like they don't use the GPO but rather Registry Extensions driven thru GPO's and I found in the corresponding registry entries the values that are set by default :
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\Wallpaper] = C:\Toolshed\wallcorp.jpg
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\WallpaperStyle] = 2 (which means Stretch)

WallpaperStyle = 10 (Fill), 6 (Fit), 2 (Stretch), 0 (Tile), 0 (Center)

I've changed the value to 0 (Tile) and will check the next time I reboot if it keeps it to that setting, and will try to control the Desktop WP again with DF.

See following site for more : https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/askperf/2011/12/13/wallpaper-deployment-troubleshooting/

Ok, thanks for the update! Is the DisplayFusion wallpaper working correctly now that you've gotten it to stay at Tile?

After rebooting my laptop this morning, the value in the registry key was changed back to its initial 2 (stretch), which means it was overwritten by some GPO.. Even now I can't switch the value anymore in the 'personalize' settings as everything is greyed out and on top it says "Some settings are managed by your organization"..
Somehow I can still change the Wallpaper, as the original corporate WP gets replaced right after my login when Win10 sets up my desktop. The WP option remains locked to stretch.
I need to talk to the IT dept and ask if they can exclude me temporarly from the GPO policies on Win10.
