On my 3 week old work laptop (limited ability to change/update things) In the last few days DisplayFusion 9.3 Pro has been causing problems. Active windows like Outlook or Slack will rapidly flicker with "(Not Responding)" in the title bar. the Windows process dwm shows up in the top three process slots by cpu usage. GUI interaction with anything is very difficult.

Until four days ago, everything was working fine and as expected. It is certainly possible that an update or configuration was pushed out that triggered this. However i have no visibility into this nor can I roll any changes back. The Microsoft updates are current / KB4457138 (OS Build 15063.1324).

Closing DisplayFusion makes these problems go away. Restarting DisplayFusion will bring them back within minutes.

I removed and reinstalled DisplayFusion this morning. the problem continues when DF is running.

Are there any solutions?

We haven't run into that before, that's definitely strange! Especially since it came up out of nowhere. When you did the uninstall, did you do a complete uninstall, choosing yes to clear all of the settings? Just wondering if you're running on default settings now and still getting this issue.

If you can send over a debug log as well, that would be great. Here are the steps:

  • On the DisplayFusion Settings > Troubleshooting tab, change the Logging drop-down to "L1: Log Minimal" and click Apply
  • Reproduce the issue and note the time so we'll know where to check in the log file
  • Click the "Export Info to File" button on the Settings > Troubleshooting tab
  • Reply with the file attached
  • Disable debug logging after sending the log

Thanks!

I did not delete preferences, having setup some triggers and other things.

debug log attached, it happened twice in the 70ish seconds I had the log open, once about 12:57:30 and about 12:58:20.

thanks!

Thanks! It seems like there's something weird happening with the titlebar buttons. On the Settings > Functions tab, can you disable the "Enable titlebar buttons" option, apply the settings, then see if this issue occurs still?

Disabling the titlebar buttons does not seem to have any impact, i have not yet had a chance to capture another round of logs for you. I don't think it's a straightforward bug in DF, but rather triggering something in lower in the stack. Do you have any pointers on exactly where in the windows logs i might look for better info?

Yeah, sounds like it. I don't think there would be anything in the Windows Event Logs, unless something is actually crashing, but it doesn't sound like that's the case.

If we can narrow it down to a specific feature in DisplayFusion that would help. On the Settings > Advanced Settings window, can you try enabling the "Disable Application Hooks" option and see if that makes any difference?
