I have started with a very simple use case: 2 apps (dyalog.exe & Firefox), both Win64-apps, running under W10-64. Screen split vertically. After saving the profile and restarting DF, I moved and resized both windows before I minimized them. Selecting that profile again does not restore the previous arrangement of windows.

Were they minimized when you saved the profile? And are they minimized when you restore the profile?
If so, could you try saving and restoring them when they're not minimized? This may be an issue with minimized windows that we need to fix up still.

My first post answers these questions.
Right, I'm just checking to see if they were minimized both when saving, and when attempting to restore. Were you able to try saving/restoring them when they're not minimized? I'm wondering if the whole feature is broken on your machine, or only when you use it with minimized windows.

I never said that I had saved the windows in minimized state (and I certainly did not do it). I did save them in the state that I wanted to restore them to.
Could you attach a backup of your settings? (Settings > Options > Export)
Thanks!

Attached...
The surprising thing (at least for me) is that this profile's name is not found in the .REG-File. I have also attached a screenie of my windows-profiles...

Thanks! The issue here is that one of the parameters it uses for identifying windows is the Window Text. For Dyalog, it looks like it includes the file name in the Window Text, and Firefox includes the current page Title. We're planning to add the ability to customize the saved text to make it more generic for apps like this in a future version.
In the meantime, you can use the "Save Window Positions" and "Restore Window Positions" functions on the Settings > Functions tab. They use window handles, so should be more reliable, but window handles change across restarts, so it's a trade off.

Keith, I'm afraid even the new beta does not cut it. Firefox is now restored properly, the Dyalog-Window is not.
I have arranged the two windows, saved the profile , minimized the windows and loaded the profile. (NB: I did not quit the apps and did not do anything in them - so their captions were exactly the same as before!)
Also I find it questionable that this profil includes 13 windows. In my use case, I'm only interested in the positions of these two windows and I don't care about the other apps (minimized apps and those in the background). I think it would be useful if we could edit the config to remove windows or possibly even edit captions etc.
Editing will be coming in 9.3, so stay tuned for that update. We're planning to improve the feature with the feedback we get from 9.2.x, so thank you for what you've given us so far!
We've just released DisplayFusion 9.3 Beta 1, and it now allows you to edit the entries in the Window Position Profiles. If you remove some text from an entry (e.g. the page title from an entry for Chrome, then it will be a more generic match that will match all Chrome windows).
Hope that helps!
