After upgrading to Windows 10, and using the multi-monitor taskbar from DisplayFusion, when I alt+tab, it only allows me to alt+tab between windows on the currently active monitor.

When I used this in Windows 7, it allowed me to alt+tab between both monitors freely.

This has forced me to have to use the Windows 10 built in multi-monitor task bar, which does not have a task manager, or a clock on it.

So I am wondering how I can enable the ability to alt+tab from one monitor to another, while using the Display Fusion multi-monitor task bar.

For instance:

I am in a windowed game on my primary monitor, and I want to alt+tab to Netflix which is on my 2nd monitor, when I hit Alt+Tab, it only shows me the windows that are on my primary monitor. In Windows 7 version of Display Fusion, I was able to alt+tab to the netflix window just fine, but not anymore in Windows 10.

Edit: Oh I see this is in the Known Issues for Windows 10. Guess I have to live with a ton of tasks on my start bar for now.

Yeah, unfortunately it seems to be a Windows bug that we haven't been able to find a workaround for yet. The other option is to use the DisplayFusion Alt+Tab Handler. You can enable it on the Settings > Window Management tab.

Thanks!

Your workaround has another bug. It seems to forget its settings, and default back to the windows 10 alt tab functionality.

This was a problem with windows 8 aswell.

@Blade: Does that only happen when certain programs are focused?

Yeah, it was only certain programs. Atleast on win8. Im not completely sure on win10.

I just bootet up my pc, and the alt tab worked fine... now an hour later, it has switched back to windows 10's own alt tab.

Ok, is it happening when you have a remote desktop application focused?

Right now I have several apps open.. And all of them show windows alt+tab, execept when I alt+tab from powershell.

The windows alt+tab only show apps from one monitor, and it only shows on one monitor.

When I alt+tab from the powershell ISE it shows the display fusion alt+tab, it shows all of the apps and it shows on both monitors.

I also have remote desktop manager free open..

When I set display fusion to "show on all monitors, show all windows".. it actually works as intended.
For a while, atleast. (it seems like it resets itself sometimes when going to sleep)

Ok, would you be able to send over a debug log? I wasn't able to reproduce that behaviour here :(
  • On the Troubleshooting tab, change the Logging drop-down to "L1: Log Minimal"
  • Restart DisplayFusion
  • Reproduce the issue and note the time so we'll know where to check in the log file
  • Send us the DisplayFusion.log and DebugInfo.html files (can be found by clicking the Open Log button on the Troubleshooting tab)
  • Disable debug logging after sending the log

I've added the files as attachments.

I cant reproduce the error, it just sortof happens.
But I just noticed it had changed back to the other alt tab, so it should probably be in the bottom of the log file.

Ok thanks! I'll review the logs and see if I can find any details that will help me reproduce this here.

In the meantime, if you just want to use the Windows alt+tab, you can workaround the issue of it not showing all windows by setting the Taskbar Mode on the DF Settings > Taskbar tab to "Windows taskbar shows all..." Windows 8.1 and 10 have a weird issue where if a window's button is removed from the Windows taskbar, it won't show up in alt+tab :(

I got the same question, only not for Alt+Tab (which shows on all monitors for me), but for Win+Tab.
Whenever I use Win+Tab, the selection window only shows on the primary monitor, but not on the others.
Could you implement a similar function like the one for Alt+Tab where you can choose in the settings whether the selection window appears on all monitors or only the primary or current?

That would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance and best regards!

Related to windows+tab, when i switch to a different desktop, it only changes the desktop for my primary monitor. Everything on my secondary monitor stays the same. so if i go to desktop 1, it only changes the applications for the primary monitor, if i had something on my 2nd monitor, it stays there. So it's not just a problem with the selection window, it's just for everything that appears on other monitors as well.

It might be helpful to mention that in the newer versions, it's no longer in the Windows Management settings, but has it's own Settings Tab (Alt-Tab). It took me a few minutes to find it, looking in Windows Managerment. :D

Sorry, but how is this STILL not fixed years later? Does Microsoft know about it?

It's not really worth us reporting it to Microsoft. We don't have a meaningful contact at Microsoft that could help out, and the API we're using to remove the taskbar buttons from the Windows taskbar isn't intended to be used the way we do. We have to find some other way to remove/hide the taskbar buttons from the Windows taskbar that won't affect Alt+Tab/Task View, but so far haven't had any luck with that.

Sorry!

2022 and this problem is still there.
I made huge use of ALT+TAB, but using the build in version is useless because it's missing the "Show on Current Monitor, show ACROSS All Windows". I have some small Window and if I ALT+TAB while focused on that window, the ALT+TAB window isn't big enough to show all the thumbnails.

I've bought this software a couple of days ago, but for this and other thing, I will have to ask for a refund.
