DisplayFusion won't start. It will complain about language missing (my system language is english?) and then quit with the error:

An unknown error has occurred.
Error creating window handle.

If I want to submit a support request:

An error has occurred.
Error creating the Web Proxy specified in the 'system.net/defaultProxy' configuration section.
Customized cultures cannot be passed by LCID, only by name.

I use the latest beta (7). Couldn't run it on the previous slow ring build either.
Any help is appreciated.

Sounds like there could be two separate issues here. Could you try re-installing the latest 7.2 Beta? (http://www.displayfusion.com/Download/Beta/). That should fix the languages error.

For the other one, could you try the following?
  • Install the .NET Framework 4 if you don't have it already: http://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/download/details.aspx?id=30653
  • Extract the attached ZIP file to a temporary folder on your drive
  • Copy the files from the temporary folder into the C:\Program Files (x86)\DisplayFusion folder, overwriting the existing files
  • Try launching DisplayFusion

Hi, Thanks for your reply. I've followed your steps:

  • 7.2 Beta 7 was already installed. However, I removed the software and installed again; same errors. See attached screenshots.
  • Downloaded the linked .net installer, it tells me:

  • Details

Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5 is already a part of this operating system. You do not need to install the .NET Framework 4.5 redistributable.

Same or higher version of .NET Framework 4.5 has already been installed on this computer.

I am not sure what attached ZIP you are referring to. There is no such zip on the .NET download page, nor is there anything attached to the thread?

Issue persists, any help is appreciated.

Sorry, my bad, here's the attachment. Regarding the lang file, could you try putting the attached en.lang into the C:\Program Files (x86)\DisplayFusion\Languages folder?

Okay, the software will launch now; but with the same error in regards to the language.
When the software starts, everything is in indonesian...

Ok, and if you right-click the tray icon, and open the Language menu (4th from the bottom), are you able to set it back to English?

    Hi,

I don't know if this counts as hijacking the thread (if it does ... sorry, I can re-post) but I'm also using displayfusion (7.2 Beta 7) on Windows 10 (currently build 10130) and have noticed a couple of oddities:

    1) I have two monitors and I'm using displayfusion to manage the separate taskbars. When I lock the screen (Windows-L), the taskbar on the second monitor, with its icons and other contents, shows up on the locked screen. If I hover over the icons of running programs I can see the thumbnail views. If I click on them nothing happens on the lock screen, but when I unlock the click actions have happened. When I click the lock screen to get the password entry prompt, the taskbar on the second monitor goes away. See attached screenshot.

    2) When I click the Start button on the second monitor, the Start menu appears on the primary monitor.

    3) The popup preview windows that appear when you hover over a running application's icon on the taskbar look different on the displayfusion taskbar (just an image of the window) and the primary taskbar (which adds a header and a close button). Not sure if this was a setting I made.

Otherwise things seem to be working fine, though I only did the update on this computer yesterday.

No worries! #1 is a Windows bug that we can't fix from our end. #2 is on our list still (trickier issue than it seems). #3 will be fixed in 7.2 Beta 8 :)

Sweet! Love to see progress. That's an unfortunate Windows bug on #1 but I guess that's why it's a preview :)

A couple of other minor things I've noticed:

    A) there's perpetually a fake File Explorer window on the second taskbar that claims to be open (it has the little underline) but isn't. It's not pinned, it just never goes away (even on reboot). If I hover over it I just see an image of the second monitor's desktop.

    B) the taskbar icons on the second monitor are a tad wider (OK I measured, 12 pixels) than on the first monitor. Honestly I like the wider icons better, but since I'm being nitpicky there it is.

    C) On grouped icons, on the primary monitor there's a sort of "stacked" effect which isn't there on the second monitor.

These seem super nitpicky but displayfusion normally works so well for me that it's weird to see things that aren't quite right!

I've noticed these same issues since Build 10130 hit the Fast lane

Just a heads up to a bug I found when I have small icons enable for the task bar with multiple monitors. The task bar on the main monitor works fine, but on my secondary screen, using the display fusion task bar, it shows the larger start button which is cropped off probably as I'm trying to display the small version. Also when I click this start button on the secondary monitor it opens the start menu up on my main monitor instead.

Hoping you can replicate this and add it to the next beta fix.

@Mr T E Parker: The Start menu issue is on our list, but I can't reproduce the Start button issue. Could you attach a screenshot?

(sorry if this appears twice, I'm not sure if I actually submitted it last time)

Just installed the latest beta! Here's what I see:

    1) Perpetual file explorer icon: fixed!
    2) Icon width: consistent!

    3) A couple of times I've left the computer running overnight and when I get back in the morning, Windows is complaining that it's out of memory and needs to close DisplayFusion. I don't know who is to blame here, just passing it along. If there's something I can collect when that happens to help pin down what's going on let me know.
    4) Some icons look different on the second taskbar than on the first. In the attached screenshot you can see the Microsoft Edge icon on both taskbars; the primary monitor is on the left and the secondary monitor is on the right; on the second monitor Edge is a blue square with a tiny logo in the middle.
    5) Also of note there is that Edge is pinned to the left taskbar but the window is open in the right. I have DisplayFusion set to only show icons on the monitor that they're running on and that generally works, but Edge shows up as running on both. It's pinned to the primary monitor, which seems to be the only difference. Outlook is pinned to the second monitor and dragging that to the primary monitor seems to behave as expected (the highlight goes away on the second monitor and a new icon appears on the first)
    6) Nitpicky: the text and icons in the status bar/clock area are less bold in the second taskbar than they are in the first.
    7) Also nitpicky: the Start icon on the second monitor is fuzzy.

    Excellent!

#3: The memory leak is related to the DisplayFusion Alt+Tab Handler. We've got this on our list to fix up, but in the meantime, if you disable it on the Settings > Window Management tab, that should resolve this issue.

    #4, 5, 6, 7: Confirmed and added to our list :)

Just a quick update. We've released DF 7.2 Beta 9, and the memory leak should be fixed up, as well as the fuzzy start button icon, and the Edge taskbar icon.
