Hey,

So I manage my wallpapers through display fusion (Pro) and have recently had a problem. I can no longer set my desktop background through display fusion OR through windows... I just have a black background. I checked a few things and tried deleting the transcoded wallpaper file in appdata but that did not help.

I am thinking of holding of and doing a fresh install when windows 10 comes out... but I would still like something more interesting than black till then so any help is appreciated

(I know this is probably a windows issue but as I manage my wallpaper through display fusion so I thought I would try my luck here)

Can you check the following to registry keys, to see if there’s a value called “Wallpaper” in them? If there is, try renaming it to “WallpaperOLD” and then try setting the wallpaper again.
  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Control Panel\Desktop

Hope that helps!

You sir are a legend!

fixed it right away! Much appreciated, any idea what would have caused that issue? just a corruption in the registry?

To be honest, I have no idea how that happens. I've never been able to reproduce it here :(

Glad to hear that fixed it though!

if it helps in reproducing I do use 2 different remote desktop utilities and I believe this happened after I remoted into this computer from my laptop using Team viewer....

there is a setting that disables wall papers so less data has to be transmitted speeding up the link and after that session the screens never went back from being black...

any way thanks again!!!

Just had the same issue occur again but this time I hadn't done any remote desktop connections.....

The same fix resolved the situation, but if it happens again is there any way I can help get more info on the cause to figure out the problem permanently ?

The only info that would really help would be figuring out which program is creating that registry value. An application like Sysinternals Process Monitor can monitor registry changes, but it's kind of performance intensive, so it's not really practical to just run 24/7 :(
