I have read through some other posts about this issue but still have not found a solution. I have added the triggers that were in this post
https://www.displayfusion.com/Discussions/View/automatically-save-and-restore-window-positions-on-sleepresume/?ID=fa98975e-e4ed-45de-afe0-fafad56c7a83
but still continue having the same problem. I also can't really tell what windows are going to which monitor when I return from idle. This happens when screens go idle(i think thats the correct term) and not to hibernate. I just come back to my computer and turn my monitors back on by moving the mouse. It seems that everything either goes to my 2 or 3 monitor and nothing stays on my main monitor.
I also tried this
"For me, this method seems to work much better by configuring the second event with 'System Wakes from Sleep' instead of 'Desktop unlocked'. The 'Wait' parameter set to 1000 ms instead of 5000 ms. Also, I've configured the first event with 'Time Interval' (e.g. 120 sec) instead of 'System Idle', otherwise when I sleep the laptop manually windows positions are not saved properly.
Update: I've tried this configuration for a few days now and it's working seamlessly and nicely. It seems like this method finally solves the"
which was added by another user but I keep getting the same issue

I've been having the same issue ever since I added one Display Port monitor as my 3rd monitor. Setting the triggers as described in another post in this forum didn't fix this issue however I found something on Github (PersistentWindows) that just solves the issue by moving the windows back to where they were before a display change happens.
On a completely unrelated note, something weird that's been happening to me recently is that after changing monitor profiles, the taskbar on my main monitor is hidden and the only way to get it back is by going to Windows' taskbar settings and enabling then disabling the "Auto hide taskbar on desktop mode" option, are you having this issue as well? Thanks
Edit:Actually, the hidden taskbar issue had nothing to do with DF, I'm guessing it was one of the HTPC programs I was using with a certain display profile that caused it, my bad.

Hi Ruben,

Interesting, so the trigger is loading when you wake your computer up, it's just moving the windows to the wrong location?

Thanks!

That's what it looks like. The screens flickers a bit when they wake and the taskbars on the 2nd and 3rd monitors disappear and then come back, the wallpapers also look like they are chopped up and spliced together but then all that fixes itself but the windows are in different locations from where I left them.

Hi Ruben,

What cables are you using to connect your monitors? Could you also try enabling "Don't run this trigger when the desktop is locked" on your save trigger, and see if that helps?

Thanks!

All 3 monitors have mini displayort to HDMI cables. I'll try enabling "Don't run this trigger when the desktop is locked" and see if it helps.

I tried enabling "Don't run this trigger when the desktop is locked" on the save triggers and it didn't seem to help. When I woke my pc my main monitor had nothing on it. I left AutoCAD, Chrome and an open folder on that screen (middle) and they moved to the screen on the right. Adobe Acrobat which was on the right screen moved to the left screen. Outlook was the only program that stayed on the correct screen(the right screen).

Hi Ruben,

Interesting, so if you have windows on your 2 side monitors, those get moved to the correct location when waking from sleep?

It sounds like the middle monitor is going to sleep first, the windows are getting moved to the sides, and then the profile is saving again.

Thanks!

I had adobe acrobat on one of the side monitors and it got moved to the other side monitor. Outlook was on the same monitor as acrobat and it stayed on the same monitor. Everything else that got moved was from the middle monitor and all of that seemed to be moved to the monitor on the left

Hi Ruben,

That's really strange, could you send me a copy of your troubleshooting info? Here are the steps:

  • Open the Settings > Troubleshooting tab
  • Click the "Export Info to File" button
  • Reply with the file attached

Thanks!

Hi Ruben,

Thanks for sending that over. If you open up the DisplayFusion Settings > Functions, can you attach a key combination to the "Save Window Positions" function, and the "Restore Window Positions From Last Save" function.

Once you have those set up, let's try saving your window positions manually, letting your computer go to sleep, and then restore them manually, and see if the issue persists. You may want to disable your trigger while you test this.

Let me know how that works!

So tried saving the windows positions manually and restoring them manually and it worked. Am I going to have to do it manually from now on?

Hi Ruben,

Interesting, can you try re-enabling your restore trigger, and then see if it works with manual saving & automatic restoring?

Thanks!

Hi Ruben,

So there must be something going on with that Save trigger. Could you send me over a screenshot of that triggers settings?

Thanks!

Hi Ruben,

Thanks for sending that over. Is your computer set to sleep at 10 minutes? Can you try lowering that value to say, 500 seconds, and see if that helps?

Thanks!

Yes, my computer is set to sleep at 10 minutes. I'll try lowering the value to 500 and see what happens.
Thanks

The same issue keeps happening with the value set to 500. It seems like windows are swapping between the 2nd and 3rd monitor. The primary monitor goes back to the way it was before my computer went to sleep/idle but the windows on the other two monitors have moved.

Hi Ruben,

Let's also try raising that wait timer on the restore trigger to 10,000ms and see if that changes anything.

Thanks!

So with this setting changed so far I have not had the problem. Only thing is that now I have to wait 10 seconds for it to restore the windows locations.

Hi Ruben,

Can you lower that timer by 1000ms each time you wake your computer, and see at what point it breaks?

Thanks!

I only dropped it down by 1000ms. So right now its set at 9000ms and the main monitor and the one on the right have everything window I left open swapped. The monitor on the left only had one open window and that window remained there.

Hi Ruben,

Could you send me over two debug logs, one with the timer set to 9000ms, and one with it set to 10,000ms? Here are the steps:

  • On the DisplayFusion Settings > Troubleshooting tab, change the Logging drop-down to "L1: Log Minimal" and click Apply
  • Reproduce the issue and note the time so we'll know where to check in the log file
  • Click the "Export Info to File" button on the Settings > Troubleshooting tab
  • Reply with the file attached
  • Disable debug logging after sending the log

Thanks!

It hadn't been consistently working or not working. Sometimes it would work with a specific timer set and other times it wouldn't so it made it hard for to make the error happen. It all seemed to just be random. I have since uninstalled and reinstalled and also upgraded to windows 11. So far I haven't run into the issue and I started with the timer at 10000ms and am down to 6000ms and so far they have all been working.
