Hi all -
I recently had a few updates applied to my machine, one for Windows 11 itself and one for DisplayFusion.
Since then, when I drag a window that's maximized to one split (by either a Trigger or double-clicking the title bar) to another split, it doesn't maximize. It used to 'ghost' into the split to show me that it would maximize if I dropped it there - and then did so when I dropped the window.
I went through all the settings and didn't see any that might control this behavior - is anyone else seeing this?
Thank you!
Hi Aaron,
In the DisplayFusion Settings > Window Management tab, do you have "Enable maximized window dragging between monitors" enabled, along with the two child settings below it?

Hi Owen - thanks for the response!
Short version: yep
Details:
I originally did not have the second sub-item checked ("when dragging non-maximized...").
I reconfirmed the issue.
Checked the second one (so that all 3 are checked) and hit Apply.
Waited for a refresh.
Checked the problem again, and it still occurs.
Be well,
Aaron

Hi Owen -
Alas, no luck. I've updated to 10.1 (Beta 2), but the issue persists.
Thanks!

Thanks Owen - log attached.
In this log, I:
* turned on L1
* Double-clicked the title bar to maximize Firefox to a split
* Tried dragging to another split on the same monitor (this is a one-monitor, multi-split setup) at 7:06:45 or so
* The window did NOT resize and maximize to match the split to which it was being dragged, and did not highlight the split as I dragged. Not sure if you'll see anything in the log.
* Double-clicked the title bar again so there would be another event
So you're looking in between the two maximize-to-split events, I think.

Thanks for sending that over, it looks like DisplayFsuion is ignoring the maximize because it thinks the window is being dragged to the same monitor it started on (the maximizing should only work when it's being dragged to a different monitor). Could you send me over a video of the issue?

I'm confused - maybe there's a terminology mismatch.
I have one physical monitor. Always have.
I use DF to allocate that monitor into work zones via Splits.
In previous versions, before a recent update, when I dragged a window that was maximized-to-split, and hovered over a different Split, it would highlight the split with a semi-transparent black overlay, showing me where the window would end up if I dropped it onto the Split.
So if I understand your use of the word Monitor to mean physical display screen, then yes, it is being dragged to the same Monitor, as I mentioned in my previous reply and the title of this thread.
What I'm missing is the old functionality for dragging maximized-to-split windows to other splits, on the same monitor.
I don't know that it will help, but there's a video attached.

Yeah it counts for monitor splits too, so DisplayFusion thinks it's moving to the same monitor split it started in, rather then a different one. Thanks for sending that video over, we have some changes coming in our next beta that might fix this up, so we'll let you know once it's released to try out.
Thanks!
We've released a new beta with some changes that might help here, can you try it out and let me know if the issue persists?

Thanks. Downloaded and ran, but it hangs. I click past the license and options, and when I click "Install", it says "Setup is preparing to install DisplayFusion on your computer" but never does anything, and that window cannot be moved, closed, or cancelled.
I'm upgrading from Beta 2 to Beta 3, and tried rebooting my machine first. No luck.
I tried Uninstalling and doing a fresh reinstall - but the uninstall hung as well.

Sorry - update, I was able to unintall Beta 2, install Beta 3, and I'm afraid it did not fix the issue.

Around 8:03 AM. I maximized a File Explorer window into a split.
Dragged it to a new split - noted that it did not re-maximize to that split. (This is the problem.)
Double-clicked on the title bar to maximize it to the destination split area.
So the problem is between the two maximize commands.

Thanks for sending that over, we got some more changes coming so we'll let you know when our next beta is released.
Thanks!

It looks like DisplayFusion still thinks it's getting moved to the same split so it's ignoring it. We'll open this back up for us to take another look at.
Thanks!

Here ya go - I repro'd the issue:
I had a blank Firefox window that I maximized to one split, then tried dragging it to another split, still don't see the outline and it doesn't automatically snap to the destination split. I have to double-click the title bar to get it to maximize - and it seems to use the center of the window as the point for deciding which split to maximize to.
In this log there should be 3 or 4 attempts to maximize, none of them worked on drag, only on double-clicking the title bar.

LOLOLOL OMG, YOU FIXED IT!
I have to say, I really thought this was going to be something specific to my machine, but yeah, I think Beta 8 fixed it. Well done!
I've attached the logs, in case you wanted to see. I used the keyboard shortcut to go to the next split/monitor three times, then dragged the window to a different split, and it worked.
Way to go!
