Hi again,
I've been trying to pin some apps from the Windows Store to a DF taskbar (I use them in Nvidia Surround, but in regular mode I use the Windows implementation). Problem is, when I attempt to open these apps, they create a new icon on the DF taskbar, instead of connecting to the pinned item. If I remove the pinned icon, then attempt to pin from the application item, it generates a new item. So basically, when I have one of these apps open, I have duplicate icons in the DF taskbar.

This does not occur with desktop apps packaged and distributed through the Windows store (eg. Spotify), only with UWP apps (eg. Mail, Xbox, and even the Windows Store itself). These apps do have the setting in the pin options as being Metro apps.

Windows 10 1703, all latest updates. DF 9.0 Beta 3.

This is currently on our list to fix up, so I've added your info to the open ticket. We'll be sure to let you know if/when we've gotten it all sorted out.

Thanks!

Just as an update, I noticed in the latest beta changelog the following line:

Code

Fix: Improved taskbar button icon compatibility with Metro apps

Unfortunately, there seems to be no visible change in this regard. Still getting separate icons for UWP apps. Windows Store apps which are desktop apps still work fine.

This issue is still open on our list. The issue we fixed was with some Windows Store app icons not showing up at all on the taskbar buttons. We'll be sure to post an update here when we've got this issue all fixed up :)

Thanks!

Hello.
Am I right, that this issue is already opened?
I have the described problem in my version, too. :'(

Hi Manuel,

Yup we do have this issue opened on our list still, but unfortunately we haven't made much progress on it.

Sorry!

Ok, what can I do to make this issue more of a priority? ;)

Hello,

This issue should be fixed up in the latest beta, available here: https://www.displayfusion.com/Download/Beta. Please let me know if you still run into any trouble after updating.

Thanks!

I just started using DF and this issue is either still happening or has emerged again. Is the fix still beta only 2+ years later?

It seems to work fine here, what app are you testing with?

I was seeing this behavior with all applications I tested, including Discord, Google Chrome, and Spotify, but a reinstall seems to have fixed Multi-Monitor Taskbar > Shortcuts > Combine with Taskbar Buttons, and it is working as intended now. :-)

Thanks!

I have been seeing this faulty behavior return occasionally, but I do not know how to consistently recreate it. Restarting the DisplayFusion application resolves it until it eventually returns (seemingly random).

Is it still happening with Discord, Chrome, & Spotify?

Yes, but not all at the same time. It seems rather random which program(s) the issue affects at any given time. At the moment I am seeing it happen with the Microsoft Store version of Facebook Messenger, yet I have Chrome, Spotify, and Discord open on the same monitor without any issue of separate icons for the pinned shortcut and the open program.

If you look at the pinned path location, delete and re-pin the app, and then look at the pinned path location again, has it changed?

I tested this with the Facebook Messenger application. The path did not change. The icon for the open application was separated from the pinned icon prior to doing the deletion + re-pinning, and doing that process unified the pinned icon and open application. This is the behavior I see when I restart DisplayFusion to temporarily resolve this issue. And then when I close and re-open Facebook Messenger, the icon of the open application is once again separated from the pinned icon. This behavior seems to be random when I close and re-open the application; sometimes the icons will be unified and sometimes separated. Let me know if I can provide any other info to troubleshoot this.

Interesting, could you send me a copy of your troubleshooting info the next time the buttons are separated? Here are the steps:

  • Open the Settings > Troubleshooting tab
  • Click the "Export Info to File" button
  • Reply with the file attached
